Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Impressions

What many would have thought to be an unlikely combination was announced some time back. Yes, DC Universe superheroes would be finding their way into a crossover game with Mortal Kombat. Set to hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall, MK vs DCU, a lot of hype has been building around the game as of late.

Watching videos from the game have not been as mindblowing as I could have hoped for. My guess is that a detailed fighting system is in place under the surface, but the actual combat looks a bit clunky in the videos. That being said, the freefall fighting is a very cool concept, and it looks to be executed decently.

Of course, the big draw for MK vs DCU is going to be the presence of DC Universe. As a pleasant surprise, the game not only features DCU characters, but it also features writers from DC's writers. Another interesting surprise is that the game has gained a Teen rating from the ESRB.

First Impressions: Valkyria Chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles is a new take on the strategy-RPG genre by Sega that is set to hit the PS3 this fall. The game looks like it has a steampunk setting about it (a variant of 1930s Europe). The game looks like it blends the strategy elements of Fire Emblem with the semi-real-time combat of Final Fantasy XII and some direct-control fighting mechanisms. The visual style is very anime in nature, and one of the cinematics looks like something straight out of a mainline anime.

Initially, I can say that the game looks very appealing. The setting is not one that is overly done. Moreover, the gameplay looks highly enjoyable in its very strategic design.
